WHO SUPPORTS TRUMP ???
Perhaps the only truthful thing that Donald Trump has ever said was “I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose voters”.
By firing FBI Director James Comey, Donald Trump is testing that thesis. And so far, based on the reaction of his base, he is proving it to be true.
Donald Trump never ran on a coherent platform; he never articulated a coherent vision of America. He never had a policy or a plan. He ran on rage. Rage and anger. And this is how he got elected. Now, he has taken the extraordinary step of firing the Director of the FBI, as the FBI, under the leadership of that Director, was closing in on his relationship with Russia and its impact on the election of 2016.
To fire Comey at this critical junction should generate both shock and outrage at his actions by every American. But amongst his base, it has not. In fact, it has generated a wave of support for his Fifth Avenue shooting in broad daylight. He spoke the truth.
Trump’s base is delighted at his actions.
In fact, the more outrageous his actions, the more they love him.
That is because Trump’s base is the physical manifestation of years of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News; thirty years of daily (it not hourly) spewed hatred and anger. It rated, (ratings being Donald Trump’s only measure of success).
For all the years that Fox and Limbaugh and their like broadcast, there was never a coherent plan or concept to what they were articulating. There was no alternative plan for America; no alternative vision. Like the opposition to Obamacare, repeal and replace, there was nothing with which to replace it. It was just television blather to excite the viewers.
It was broadcast rage…
Rage that there was a black man in the White House.
Rage that a woman had the temerity to run for President.
Rage at the ‘elites’ who were running the country.
Rage that gay people could marry.
You name it — they had rage. They had no vision, but they had rage.
Trump tapped into that rage. In fact, he was the perfect candidate for it. He also raged against the Manhattan elites who laughed at him and treated him as a joke. He was as angry as they.
This is all about anger.
And now, the more he shoves it back in their faces ― those people who voted for a black President, who supported a woman, who back gay marriage, who wrecked the Ozzie and Harriet country that they remember ― the more outrageous Trump is, the more his base loves him. He articulates their anger perfectly.
A government based on rage and anger and revenge is not pretty, but that is what we have. This has happened before — rage and anger and revenge as a policy. Russia in 1917, France in 1789…
There too, policy ― and action ― were created not out of sense of a vision of a better, kinder, more equitable nation, but rather out of a sense of rage and revenge. Vengeance wreaked upon the French nobility; vengeance visited upon the Russian ruling class and bourgeoise.
So anything and everything that Trump does is founded on anger and revenge.
Don’t believe it? Listen to the word of Steve Bannon. He, unlike Trump, at least will tell you the truth:
•“Let the grassroots turn on the hate because that’s the ONLY thing that will make them do their duty,” he wrote about Republican leaders in a 2014 email exchange with a Breitbart News editor.
• “There is a growing global anti-establishment revolt against the permanent political class at home, and the global elites that influence them, which impacts everyone from Lubbock, Tex., to London, England,”
• Referring to Ann Coulter, Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin in a 2011 radio interview on Political Vindication Radio, he said: “These women cut to the heart of the progressive narrative. That’s why there are some unintended consequences of the women’s liberation movement. That, in fact, the women that would lead this country would be pro-family, they would have husbands, they would love their children. They wouldn’t be a bunch of dykes that came from the Seven Sisters schools up in New England. That drives the left insane, and that’s why they hate these women.”
• “I’m a Leninist,” Mr. Bannon was quoted as saying by a writer for The Daily Beastwho met him at a party in 2014. He later said he did not recall the conversation. “Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal, too,” the site quoted him as saying. “I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”
This is going to end very very badly.
